Jordanian student follows his IT dreams as a Microsoft Student Partner

Jordanian student, Anton Thabaine, has always seen the potential for app developers in the country to succeed, if they have the courage to follow their dreams. As a Microsoft Student Partner (MSP), he had the opportunity to make his dream a reality when he started working as a trainee at Microsoft.

The MSP program gives university students with a passion for technology the opportunity to develop real-world skills and resources to help them in their future careers. Each year, a group of student applicants are selected to join the global MSP team, and these MSPs are recognised as technology leaders and Microsoft representatives at their universities, with access to our tools, technologies and training.

Anton adds, “Microsoft holds several competitions for students, such as the Imagine Cup, and there are many opportunites for students to compete at university, country or regional level. This exposes us to opportunities in the IT and development fields.”

When Anton started working at Microsoft, he was appointed as part of the team developing an app for Ro’ya TV – a project that took almost six months to complete. He explains, “The app is connected to servers and devices that are physically located in Ro’ya and we are constantly pulling data and information from those severs, which we add to the app using Microsoft Windows for users to see.”

Anton is proud of the Ro’ya TV app’s presence in the Windows Store. He explains that users with Windows 8.1 on their devices can see a list of the latest programs from the channel, as well as recent updates and videos. He adds, “You can also use the menu bar to search, or find the latest weather forecast and program schedules – and you can even click on the ‘live stream’ tab to watch the channel live.”

He encourages Jordanian developers to “Step out and start programming while not being afraid of anything, because everything is available – the basis, the background and the knowledge.”

Students like Anton who would like to pursue their dreams of a career in IT should visit for more information.
