Microsoft Lync takes a test drive at Volkswagen, and helps LA Fitness shape up employee collaboration

Automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Group of America is rolling out Microsoft Lync to 1500 of its employees in Northern Virginia and Detroit, in a move that will help the company reduce costs while improving team collaboration, communication and training.

Volkswagen previously used a complex telephony system to connect its workers together, but needed a single solution to unite voice, instant messaging, audio, video and web conferencing - so employees can stay connected on the go, save on travel, and ultimately reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

Fitness industry titan LA Fitness also just announced a company-wide rollout of Microsoft Lync 2010 for its 20,000 employees in 370 clubs across the country. Lync will help LA Fitness colleagues interact, share information, and deliver great customer service to club members.

The company is thrilled to no longer use a traditional PBX system, and the transition to Lync will help LA Fitness save over $650,000 per year.
