Coming Soon: Microsoft and edX partner to offer new professional learning courses for school leaders

As school leaders look to transform and modernize education, access to professional learning experiences is crucial. In order to support school leaders around the world, we are working closely with edX to create new professional learning courses for school leaders to support their leadership in education transformation. Starting in the fall of 2016 through spring 2017, five new online courses will be available to help guide school principals and headmasters, superintendents and school leaders enhance classroom learning and outcomes.

School leadership matters

We know behind every flourishing school is a leadership team with clarity of vision and tools to implement, navigate change processes and monitor improvement. We believe leadership is an output of a high performing team and recognize educators fulfilling many roles within schools need the opportunity to learn and express leadership. Microsoft supports schools on this transformation by providing the Microsoft Education Transformation framework, technology planning resources, and education competencies for school staff. In addition, Microsoft Showcase Schools are a global community of schools the we work closely with to identify best practices on how to improve learning.

New online courses for school leaders

To expand support for school leaders, we partnered with edX who joined forces with leading global education and business institutions to create five professional courses to empower today’s school leaders to shape learning institutions ready for tomorrow. These brand new courses have been designed to include latest research, current technologies and contemporary approaches to learning design. Supported by Microsoft, the content is designed to empower all leaders, in all positions to do more, be more, and achieve more. Expansion of partnership with edX

This partnership expands upon the collaboration between edX and Microsoft in online learning. Microsoft offers more than 35 online courses, both MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and professional education courses, on These new courses for school leaders will be developed with edX university partners, shared with educators around the world, and will be available for the new school year.
