By Anthony Salcito, Vice President of Worldwide Education: White House endorses student privacy pledge in call for comprehensive privacy reform

In October, I shared that Microsoft had signed on to the “K-12 School Service Provider Pledge to Safeguard Student Privacy.” We noted that this was an important step for the industry in building trust with school customers, parents and students and that by signing the Pledge we were reiterating our commitment to not use student date to target advertising or to build profiles. Today, President Obama delivered a speech at the US Federal Trade Commission and in referencing the need for more comprehensive protection of student data, he endorsed the Pledge. Here is more information on this development from my DC-based colleague who attended the speech today.
