TechForum: The Campus Edition
Every month, the Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) team at Microsoft Korea conducts the TechForum, to share insights into the latest trends dominating the IT landscape. The seminar also features opinion leaders from various sectors to share their thoughts and opinions on how IT is revolutionising the way their organisations operate.
This time around, the LCA team wanted to add a small twist to their monthly TechForum. In collaboration with other Microsoft teams such as the Developer and Platform Evangelism (DPE) and Most Valuable Professional (MVP) teams, the LCA team conducted an on-campus version called TechForum@University.
University students watch a presentation on current IT trends
The team visited Gachon University, Sangmyung University, Yonsei University, Kookmin University and Yong In University over a two-week period, where they provided students with tips on gaining relevant IT knowledge as well as finding a career in the IT industry regardless of their major.
Addressing an audience of 50 to 55 students in each university, Microsoft Korea Technology Evangelist Young Wook Kim did a presentation titled “The Age of IoT (Internet of Things)”, where he discussed the unlimited possibilities of IoT and how it could change the way people live.
During the forum, the MVPs organised the “Pre-Company Life Experience and How to Effectively Use Office 365” session to showcase the vast capabilities of Office 365 when maximised. The students listened with rapt attention as the MVPs demonstrated the various features of Office 365 that could greatly improve their work processes, even for school assignments.
“It was quite refreshing to learn new—or should I say hidden—functions of OneNote,” said Lim Seul Gi, student at Kookmin University. “Up until now, I have been using only a few functions. Thanks to TechForum@University, I have learned some useful tricks on Office 365 that could help me with my school work as well as my daily schedule management.”
LCA Korea is also working with nonprofit partner Hope to the Future Association to create awareness among students about the importance of volunteer work.

“We always welcome the opportunity to reach out to young people, be it to support their interest in the IT field or to get them involved in volunteering. Through TechForum@University, we were also able to engage them in conversations about career and development, and provide them with insights on how to create and capture career opportunities,” said Seo Hee Choi, technical strategist, Education Team of Microsoft Korea.
Participants from all five universities have started online groups where they are actively swapping IT news. TechForum@University will continue its journey of inspiring students with IT technologies with Microsoft's cutting edge technologies.
