Microsoft Philippines is collaborating with Acer to help non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Philippines enhance their community work through the donation of Microsoft-powered Acer computers.
Through the partnership, Acer will encourage NGOs to sign up with TechSoup Asia, the organisation that delivers technology and capacity development resources to NGOs across the Asia Pacific region, before they register as beneficiaries under Acer’s donation programme. This will enable NGOs to gain easier access to Microsoft software donations along with the hardware provided by Acer, also enabling the overall cost of technology donations to be better optimised.
“This partnership with Microsoft will allow Acer to donate hardware updated with the latest Microsoft technology to NGOs in the Philippines. These donations will help them implement their community programmes more effectively to aid the underprivileged,” said Manuel Wong, General Manager of Acer Philippines.
Microsoft Philippines has been supporting NGOs across the country through a variety of software donation and training programmes since 2005. Under Microsoft’s software donation scheme, qualified NGOs are able to acquire a wide range of updated software products to boost work productivity, improve collaboration and extend services to new communities in the Philippines.
Provinces such as Iloilo, Cebu, Bacolod and Davao have benefitted vastly from Microsoft’s aid by participating in nationwide events, such as NGO Connection Days, and other smaller-scale projects. By introducing the latest technologies such as cloud computing, Microsoft is able to help local community groups and NGOs maximise their productivity.
“Microsoft hopes to empower Filipinos by providing solutions that can help people and NGOs realise their fullest potential. Our Citizenship programmes are aimed at transforming education, promoting local innovation and improving employment opportunities for the underserved. By joining forces with Acer, we are able to move forward with our mission and reach out to even more Filipino communities,” said Raul Cortez, Legal and Corporate Affairs Director of Microsoft Philippines.
“The partnership with Microsoft will allow Acer to donate hardware updated with the latest Microsoft technology to NGOs in the Philippines.”
