Make your email subject lines work

We're all time-stretched and email-overloaded. Here are a couple of tips to help your mails get read.

  • Make more of the subject line so recipients can immediately see how the message relates to them and why it's important.
  • Be very specific about the response you require, ie: budget figures required by 10 March
  • If the mail is 'for information only' put FYI in the subject line - knowing that a response is not required won't deter people from reading.
  • Don't cc people unnecessarily, it could dilute the effectiveness of your message and confuse those who don’t have to action anything .
  • Lastly – check before sending! Have you included attachments? Sure?
