Hi there! This is Karri Alexion-Tiernan, I’m a Product Manager on the MDOP team focused on Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) and I plan to start blogging to the community about the great things we are doing! I’ve been in the Enterprise Management space for quite some time both practical experiences managing large enterprises as well as helping to building product for large enterprises. I look forward to seeing the community at conferences and hearing about the business challenges you face and MDOP can help solve!
A few weeks ago we announced the launch of MDOP 2008 R2 which includes Microsoft Application Virtualization. App-V is one component in Microsoft’s Virtualization stack as well as an integral part of managing your entire IT environment, from your desktop machines to datacenter.
This week I’d like to share some great new tools and whitepapers that will help you use App-V to optimize your desktop (BTW, for more information on what an Optimized Desktop looks like, and why it’s important, take a look at this post and the MDOP website)
Here is a quick overview of our most recent updates –
· App-V Home Page Update – This provides a great intro to the product and the business challenges it helps solve without getting into the technical details too quickly. Check it out! Let us know what you think.
· App-V Trial Guide – You’ve heard about App-V, you’ve seen the demos, now it’s time to give it a spin on your own. This guide provides quick instructions for setting up an App-V environment so that you can get familiar with the most commonly used components quickly!
· App-V and System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 – We want to make sure that you continue to realize the value of your ConfigMgr investment. The integration with App-V and ConfigMgr is great! Follow the same familiar workflows used for distributing physical packages and leverage your existing infrastructure for delivery! This paper has lots of goodies for both the App-V and ConfigMgr Admin.
· App-V Application Publishing and Client Interaction Whitepaper – This is one of the most common questions we get asked at conferences when talking to customers at our booths. I hope this really clarifies how the client operates and stores data to support the virtual app.
That’s all for today… Tomorrow: PART 2 – DEPLOYMENT AND MANAGEMENT TOOLS for App-V
