Infrastructure Optimisation on Technet

A large part of the work we do as infrastructure consultants involves helping our customers to move towards a more dynamic infrastructure as per the Microsoft Infrastructure Optimisation (IO) Model. For anyone who may not be familiar with the IO model there is some great content on Technet which explains it in detail. To quote the website content:

"Infrastructure Optimization serves as a gauge for IT organizations and provides a logical roadmap to progress from reactive to proactive IT service management."

Without going into too much detail, the IO model enables IT organisations to assess themselves against the four stages in the model, Basic "we fight fires", Standardised "we're gaining control", Rationalised "we enable business" and Dynamic "we're a strategic asset". There's a wealth of information available on Technet, including a recently released Core Infrastructure Optimization Implementer Resource Guide: Basic to Standardized , which gives prescriptive guidance on how to move your organisation from Basic to Standardised.

If you're interested in moving your IT infrastructure from a fire-fighting service, always on the back foot and viewed as a cost centre by the business to a service which is seen as a strategic asset and a business enabler and don't know where to start, then the Infrastructure Optimisation content on Technet will provide you with the information that you need.
