System Center Data Protection Manager v2 Beta1 now available for download

The next version of System Center Data Protection Manager, DPM v2 is now available for download as Beta 1. I’ve done a few customer presentations of our current offering, DPM 2006 and while it’s a great product many people have pointed out that they would like to see support for backing up more than just file shares and volumes. My response to that has been to talk about DPM v2 and how it’s going to meet everyone’s needs in this area, so I’m glad that I now have something to show them :-)

The blurb for DPM 2006 states that you can “Protect your servers in minutes” and I have to say that that having worked with the product that really is the case. However DPM v2 moves things on to the next level.

DPM v2 builds on the same technology that made DPM 2006 such a great disk-to-disk backup product but it now has loads of additional features and ,crucially, support for backing up the following:

· Exchange Servers (including Exchange 2007)

· SQL Servers

· SharePoint Portal Server

· Microsoft Clusters

If you’re involved in managing backups and restores for a Microsoft environment I recommend that you check out DPM v2. You can download the Beta and check out the datasheets and FAQ at https://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/dpm/default.mspx
