Azure VM stuck in Failed State (ARM)

VM is stuck in a "Failed" state

You can attempt to clear this state by updating the VM via PowerShell. This causes no additional downtime and only takes a moment.

To do this, open a PowerShell session as an Administrator and run the following modifying as needed

# To view all subscriptions for your account

# To view all subscriptions for your account

# To select a default subscription for your current session

Get-AzureRmSubscription –SubscriptionID “SUBID” | Select-AzureRmSubscription

Get-AzureRmVM -Name "VMname" -ResourceGroupName 'RGName' | Update-AzureRmVM

    But why VM get failed???

    1. Hi Viresh,

The reason for VM to get failed while Power Up, could be the VM got in hung state. or you made any changes in VM configuration because of which the server is unable to start. Eg. If you change the VM storage from Standard to Premium and the Current Size don’t support Premium. The VM will not on and it will get failed while starting.
