31 Days of Our Favorite Things: Continuously Available File Shares in Windows Server 2012 (Part 18 of 31)

One thing you will notice in today’s post is the word Continuously.  Notice it does not say highly or mostly, but continuously.  While this is still a file share on a clustered environment like we have had in the past.  There have been tremendous improvements under the hood from previous versions Windows Server.  In previous versions of Windows Server when you had a clustered file share, essentially only one node could be connected at a time to the file share and when that node went down you had a brief moment of downtime that may have caused client disconnects.  In Windows Server 2012, the improvements to SMB 3.0 (as I talked about in Part 17) and enhancements in clustering provide for a powerful combination of technologies.  For today’s post Steven Murawski takes a look at this powerful combination in Windows Server 2012.
