Outlook 2010 helps with Clean Up After Vacation

SAM_0269So last week we took the family up north to Sandusky, OH.  We went to one of the greatest roller coast parks on the planet, at Cedar Point.  Where my son rode 12 of the 16 possible coasters.  Really only 15, we heard the mean streak, was in a word mean.  AKA, not safe rough, and even chiropractors do not recommend it.  Mitchell was a beast and he road the following coasters but his favorite was the 18 seconds spent on Top Thrill Dragster:

  • Maverick
  • Millennium Force

So what happens when I get logged on this morning, I dreaded the inevitable opening of the email.  So, after two cups of coffee,  I opened my inbox and found a little over 500 unread emails.  Which is surprisingly light, but still not a good way to start Monday.  I also I knew Outlook 2010 was here to help me and no it was not just the overuse of the delete key.   I know we all have this after vacation problem, and I know we share one thing about our email inboxes, that is normally thread upon thread of emails all related to one and another.   What do we normally do, find the top email in the thread imageand then by hand delete the rest.  Well, now there is a simpler way, In Outlook 2010, in combination with Exchange 2010, there is a new button called Clean Up.  This is a thread trimmer, and is the first button I hit when I opened my inbox.  My 500 emails became about 285, and I did not lose any data.  When you run the tool, it places all the emails it “Cleans Up” in the deleted items folder so you can still get them back up.
