Book of the Month March 2009: Inside Delta Force (plus a Bonus TV show of the month)

delta Go for Hester, this months book  Inside Delta Force: The Story of America's Elite Counterterrorist Unit by Eric L. Haney takes a look inside the creation and process behind Delta force.  I got a hold of the book after becoming addicted to the TV show: The Unit (see bonus below).  Eric Haney is a Command Sergeant Major, USA (ret.), from delta force and he takes a very detailed look into the unit.  The book details Eric’s journey through the selection process on how hard it is to be a part of the unit.  The selection chapters also had my favorite laugh out loud moment.  Eric had just finished a series of incredible physical and mental challenges, called stress phase, and was brought in front of the selection board.  The commanding officer had asked the question on how Eric liked the stress phase, Eric told him:  “ I was waiting for stress phase to start”  Loved that!  So if you want to see how the rest of that story ends get the book.  If you have read the book let me know what you think!

BONUS: TV Show of the month: The Unit

96460_D1364.jpgKai and Keith during lunch one day both gave me a ribbing for not watching this show.  So being the ever diligent person, I went home and rented disc 1 from season 1 and became immediately hooked on the show.  The show is an interesting blend between the missions and the families (mainly wives) behind the soldiers.  The show is like 24 meets Desperate Housewives.  This is what the makes the stories very good and well written. The combination of the different story lines is also what got my wife hooked on the show as well.  I was midway through season 2 when my wife walked in and got hooked on the show as well.  What did this mean for me?  First off I had to go re-rent season 1 because she wanted to get caught up.  Secondly this also meant that we spent the next several weeks getting caught up so we could watch the current season on the show.  Lastly this meant I did not get a lot of sleep, we stayed up most nights until midnight and when you have a 6 month old in the house.  That makes for a long next day.  So now we are caught up on the series, although we both liked the original opening theme song.  :-).  Check out the show it is on Sunday evenings at 10pm est on CBS.
