TechNet Event Dayton, OH (8/28/2007)

Good morning Everyone!

It was great seeing everyone again and I really enjoyed my time in Ohio.  We had a fantastic TechNet event on the 28th, and by the way we had 173 Dayton IT Pros in attendance!

Overall it was a fantastic trip and I thank everyone who attend the events and I look forward to the next time I am in town!

Q: Are there management packs that will help to look for network line speeds and connectivity?
A: YES. As a matter of fact there are several third party tools located here: Management Pack Catalog

In fact even Microsoft IT uses some 3^rd party management packs for the overall health of the network, to take a look at how MS IT does it take a look here: Infrastructure Management at Microsoft

Q: Will System Center Essentials be supported on Virtual Server?
A: I got this Q/A from the FAQ (Full FAQ Here):

• Q. Will Essentials 2007 support Virtualization?
  A.Essentials 2007 will manage virtualized Windows environments, within the 30 server and 500 client limits. The Essentials server itself can be run on a virtualized OS.

So it appears that you can SCE on a virtualized system, however I do not have any official word that this will be supported.

Q: What browsers are supported for Intelligent Application gateway (IAG)?
A: This is a great question I have been asked quite a few times, so let me do a little ctrl-c and ctrl-v from a previous post. The tables below highlights the recommended browsers, for a full list of the system requirements take a look here: https://www.microsoft.com/forefront/edgesecurity/iag/system-requirements.mspx

An asterisk (*) indicates support for mobile Internet connectivity.

Although other browsers might also be functional, for optimal performance, we recommend use of these versions only.

Note:
Some of the IAG 2007 client components are supported only on Windows operating systems running Internet Explorer. For details, refer to "Whale Client Components" on page 147 in the Intelligent Application Gateway User Guide.

• For those users running other operating systems or other browser versions, the IAG 2007 portal home page has been reworked to present a stripped-down page for browsers that do not support the rich environment necessary for the entire range of IAG features, such as scheduled logoffs and session time-outs.

Q: Can you allocation CPU utilization for FCS or the individual engines in Forefront?
A: Not that I can find, I do not know of a way to set certain process utilizations for each forefront scanning engine inside of Forefront server products.
