Book's of the Month for May 2007: The Present and How Full is Your Bucket.

Good day all my book of the month readers.  I apologize for the delay in getting this month's books to you.  I have been a bit buried with my schedule as of late.  So this month I am review not just one but two books I have read recently.

presentI will start off with the book: The Present: The Gift That Makes You Happier And More Successful At Work And In Life, Today! by Spencer Johnson.  If you find yourself, stressing out about past events or worried about the future.  Then is book is absolutely for you!  This is a great book that covers a very simple concept that is often overlooked.  Live in the present, the past is done and you cannot predict the future.  What you can do is learn your lessons from the past and move on, and take action in the present to obtain the future you desire.  After reading that sentence you are most likely thinking, I got it, put a check in the box, okay moving on the next book.  Trust me we need to be reminded of this and this book does it in a very clear and concise way.  BTW if the authors name, Spencer Johnson, looks familiar to you then you most likely have read Who Moved My Cheese.  If you liked that book, you will also enjoy The Present.    Give yourself the present that will help you become happy and successful with your work and your life.

bucket The Second book I want to review this month is: How Full Is Your Bucket?: Positive Strategies for Work and Life by Tom Rath, Donald O. Clifton.  This is also a great book that helps you look at your interactions with other people and how they and how you can affect each others daily lives.  Think about this, like or not we deal with people everyday, and those interactions really have impact on our days and lives..  Did that person who cut you off driving into work, set you in a bad mood for the beginning of the day?  When you said thank you to the person who helped you find the perfect gift for someone special to you, did you find yourself smiling, how about the other person?  More to the point when you gave that unexpected gift, how did the other person respond?  Simply put we all have this "bucket" that helps maintain our moods during the day, if the bucket is full we are being positive and if the bucket is empty we are negative.  We either add to buckets (ours or others), or we take away.   I think we all agree, having a smile on your face is a great way to go through a day.  What I really liked most about this book is that it helped remind of something that my mom told me.  Be Nice and wear clean underwear.  This books discusses the power of being positive not only to others but the positive impact that you will feel as well.   You will have to handle the underwear yourself.  :-)

Take a look at my other book of the months here: Past Books of The Month

Please comment if you have read either of these books and let me know what you think.

Special note:   thank you to everyone who sent me a recommendation for a book and some of the choices I will be reviewing and posting on the blog.  However, it may be a while for Atlas Shrugged by Any Rand.  It is a very well written book but is very long.  :-)
