Book of the Month for October 2006: Dealing with People You Can't Stand

Welcome to the second installment, of the book of the month club here on my blog. This club is being called more exciting than a similar club by a certain daytime talk show host.  Not really but I can pretend can't I.  :-)   After posting a fun book for my first review on the Halo Graphic Novel, I decided to review a book that has helped me tremendously in my career.

Dealing with People you Can't Stand by Rick Brinkman, Rick Kirschner, is must have book if you have ever had to deal with challenging people at work or if you find people shying away from you and it is not due to bodily hygiene.  :-)

I initially picked up this book because I truly felt I was a difficult person to work with and after reading the book I KNEW, it was not me but everyone else I worked with.  :-)  Seriously, this book will help you deal with the many different personality types that you encounter not only in work but in your personal life.  More importantly the book will shed insight into your own internal person that people can't stand.  Ultimately this book will provide you some mental tools and guidance to deal with difficult people even if that person is yourself.  As the book tells you the power to change lies within yourself.

The book starts off by detailing the 10 different types of difficult people.  Some of the types include, the yes person,  the know-it-all, the think they know-it-all, and my personal favorite: the tank.  Why is this my favorite, because this is my internal person.  :-)

The fantastic thing about this book, is that it will give you very succinct strategies to help deal with the many different types of people that you meet.  The strategies all center on a few common things: changing your thought process, giving you actual examples of dialog to help move past the troubles you may encounter and a fun little story for each of the different personality types.

This book is a must have for any business that works with more than 1 person in their life and I highly recommend it.  You can take a look at the book here: https://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780071379441&itm=5
