Book of the Month for September 2006: The Halo Graphic Novel

I have been asked by several customers on what books I read and I find compelling. Based on that I have decided to start a new feature here on my blog to start today:

The Book of the Month.

For my inaugural book of the month review, I have chosen: The Halo Graphic Novel. I caught wind of this wonderful book from my good buddy Keith Combs: https://blogs.technet.com/keithcombs/archive/2006/05/10/427921.aspx

Being the Halo aficionado that I am, I had to pre-order this book. It may seem a bit pricey at $25 however I was not disappointed one bit. If you are a true fan of Halo, this is a must have for your collection! I was also pleasantly surprised when I opened the novel to not just find 1 story, but a total of 4 short stories. I pre-ordered in the blind, I did not read the original description. The 4 stories gave fantastic perspective and back story into the world of Halo. The first story, Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor, was very interesting to me, it focused on the Covenant and how they handled contact with the flood. My favorite part of the story was a training scene between two elite commanders, very well done. The second story, Armor Testing was my favorite. As the name suggests, this story showcases how Master Chief’s armor was initially tested, a fun little journey into what makes Master Chief unstoppable! The third story, Breaking Quarantine, was a great story because it focused on character that most of you came to the love, Sergeant Johnson . In the game, this was bit of mystery around, how did Sergeant Johnson escape the flood, and with this story we now know how he did it, very good stuff. The last story, Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa, was a bit of side step from the previous 3 stories in that it focused on the society of New Mombasa before the Covenant invasion and is an interesting tale on how the world reacted to the invasion. Now you would think after 4 great stories the book would be over….wrong. As a super-fantastic bonus at the end, the editors decided to put in some additional art work that was not included in the 4 stories. I have to tell you the artwork is wonderful and the untold stories that are left to your imagination with those few selected pieces of art is simply amazing!

As I stated above this a great book and true fans will not be disappointed. Even if you are not a fan of Halo, the artwork in the novel is top notch and I think you will enjoy it.
