Database Mirroring won’t make RTM

Edited 20/9/05 to correct typos

As Paul Flessner says in his letter Database Mirroring won’t make it in the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) release for SQL 2005.  It will be there for people to test using a trace flag, but Microsoft has not declared it tested enough for production.

We do expect to see this feature go live sometime in the first half of next year.

Also Express Manager is being revamped.  Its going to get its own Visual Studio lite appearance – also to come in the first half of next year.

Mirroring is/was part of Standard Ed.

Standard edition will have this as well?

    Hi Matt,

    I trust you’re well 🙂

Firstly, congrats on the new job, and please do try and carry on the blogging.

Secondly, I couldn’t notice that on, one of their main features is on High Availability (

One of the main thrusts of this overview is database mirroring. So why release marketing on features that have been pulled by default? Does this represent a turnaround from the product group, or are the marketing guys just a little diconnected? (I suspect I know the answer to this 🙂

    Thanks Mark

Database mirroring hasn’t been ‘pulled’ exactly – the official line is that it is delayed. We do expect to see mirroring arrive in what will probably be the first service pack, hopefully sometime in the first half of next year.

    Please stay tuned!
