Nokia Lumia 920 Day 2 - Listening to music

If found myself travelling into London on the train today so I thought I would review the Lumia 920's music capabilities today.

First thing I noticed when I started the Xbox Music app is that all of my music was there already. Although I had the same experience when I first logged into my Surface, it throws you off slightly until you remember why. I should mention at this point that I currently have an Xbox Music Pass. I then pick Calvin Harris' new album called '18 Months' and played it through the phone speakers. It's louder than the Nokia 800 which I found to be disappointing after owning an iPhone. Needless to say, its loud enough.

As mentioned, I have used the Xbox Music App before and just like on the Surface, I found it hard to understand what was on the device and what would be streamed. If iTunes has one thing right, it's that it's obvious were track ia coning from. On reflection, I should probably learn what the icons mean as that might help. Also I never signed up for iTunes Match so it is entirely possible that its equally challenging. Work to be done by Microsoft to make it easier to understand where the music is, what's downloaded and what's downloading.

This brings me to the final observation. I have over 32gb of music and it's not all going to fit on the Lumia 920. One part of me says that they should make devices with large amounts of storage (or microSD slots like some of the others I am looking at) but another part of me says "do I really need to carry all that music around?". I liken it to the PST files that some people have. They might have every email they have sent or received since joining the company but do they really need it. One could also liken it to the fact that some of my friends insist on buying CD, I find that a little 'old fashioned'. Have I now become old fashioned but wanting to download and own the music digitally where most people just subscribe and stream it?

All in all. The sound is great on this device, although I should admit I am not an audiophile. It plays the music loud and when I plugged it into the AUX jack in my car the 'house music' when BOOM BOOM BOOM. What more do I need?
