Is there more to LOB than SAP?

Thomas's opening blog implied that LOB wasn't just about SAP but also JD Edwards, Peoplesoft and Siebel. So where is all the JDE, PSFT and Siebel content? It is time for a change, time to slow the tidal wave that is SAP, time for Iron Man to stand upto the Teutonic giant that is SAP! Well that might be a bit dramatic but it is certainly time for the Oracle Apps to get some coverage on this blog.

So why is Microsoft interested in Oracle Apps, specifically JD Edwards, Peopelsoft and Siebel? The short answer is because you are, a lot of Microsoft customers are running their Oracle Apps on our platform. When I speak about our platform I mean Windows Server and SQL Server but some of you might also be running Biztalk and Sharepoint as well. Those of you running your Oracle Application on SQL Server maybe considering an upgrade to SQL 2008 R2, especially if you are on SQL 2000 but even if you are one SQL 2005 (hopefully no one is on SQL 7.0 ort 6.5). We also know there are customers who want to migrate off their current platform to Windows/SQL Server. This might be from IBM iSeries/DB2 (AS/400) or Oracle (Windows/AIX/HP-UX/Solaris/Linux). Whatever you are on today Windows 2008 R2/SQL Server 2008 R2 is the perfect platform for running your Oracle Application on. There might be some reluctance (and even opposition) from those who are entrenched in the past, but Microsoft has silenced its critics, and in SQL 2008 we have an enterprise class, scalable, reliable, secure database that is better value both in licensing costs and total cost of ownership than our competitors.

Enough of the sale pitch I hear you cry! Okay but what about my original question - why is Microsoft interested in Oracle Applications? Because we have a great solution that we believe is not only the equal but in many cases better than our competitors. We are not just focused on existing users but are helping new users migrate to our platform and start reaping the benefits for themselves.

I will be back, with more technical content and also hope to provide some insight into what some customers are doing on our platform today. For now if there is any specific items of interest then please let me know.
