Chile DST 2015 Suspended

On January 28th 2015 the Chilean government announced that “summer time” will be extended for the rest of the year and daylight savings time (DST) for 2015 will be suspended to promote efficient use of energy and reserve the projected 20% energy reduction for 2025. The Chilean government has communicated that this is the best way of ensuring the quality of life for the Chileans, which will promote the proper use of power.

Summer time will be defined in the time zone three hours west of the meridian of Greenwich (-3), on the Mainland, and the time zone five hours west of the meridian of Greenwich (-5) and in the island territory that currently governs “summer time”

Since DST will not be taken into consideration for 2015 in Chile as to previous years, Windows-based computers will not correctly interpret the time that is related to suspending daylight savings time.

In addition to Microsoft products, other software, OS releases and hardware (phones, routers, switches and managed devices) may require updates and/or changes.

Our teams at Microsoft have taken several steps to alert customers and partners about suspending DST in Chile.

At this moment Microsoft is working on a hotfix to update the Windows Operating Systems regarding suspending DST for Chile in 2015, however, we have not defined a date for release of this hotfix.

Users that apply the upcoming hotfix will be prepared for the changes. However all the users will have to adjust the Outlook calendars after any changes related with time zone (hotfix or workaround).

We will continue to publish advice and recommendations on the LATAM Team Blog at https://blogs.technet.com/latam and at https://www.microsoft.com/chile/cambiodehora/default.aspx.
