Below I’ve pasted an edited and cleaned up copy of most of the Q&A from today’s webcast on the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer.
BIG thank you to Matt “Mongo” Hester for handling the Q&A on the backend, and who’s work this really represents.
Questions and Answers:
“Is there any beta Exchange 12 testing programming?”
I imagine there will be, however it is not currently public, it looks like they are starting to get beta registrations: http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/preview/default.mspx
Exchange 12 beta signup can be done here http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/beta/preregister.mspx
“Isn’t 2.6 the latest version .. this doesn’t look like it :-|”
You are correct. 2.6 is the latest version. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2003/analyzers/default.mspx
“Can exbpa be run across multiple domains in a forest?”
I have not tried it across domains/ or forests, but as long as the trusts are in place it should work fine. I would be more worried about speed of the analysis, the closer you can get the servers the better.
“I joined the meeting late… where can you download this tool?”
You can download the tools here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2003/analyzers/default.mspx
“Also an easy link to remember is http://www.exbpa.com”
Good place for the BPA. The link I sent also had several other great tools.
“Is it possible to configure a baseline analysis from a ‘source’ server for a comparison purpose? Like I have this config on one of my servers and I want to known is the other’s one are configured on the same way & same version.”
Yes, but you would have to save the reports separately out. So you cannot change the main baseline that comes with the tool, but you can run it twice on the two different to have your baseline.
