Windows Server 2003 R2 is RELEASED TO MANUFACTURING

R2!

R2D2

Yep. Windows Server 2003 R2 is RTM.  (RTM stands for “Released to Manufacturing”)

“So what? What’s in it for me?”

Good questions.  If you want big improvements in identity management, branch server management, and storage configuration (local and remote), then this is an upgrade you should seriously consider.

“Upgrade? You mean I have to pay for this?”

Yes, you do.  It’s a release.  It costs money.  Now… if you have Windows Server 2003 that is covered under a Software Assurance agreement, it costs you NOTHING.  (It’s a benefit of SA.)

For more details, here is the R2 "What's New" web page, and here is today’s press release.

UPDATE: Here is where you can order or download a trial copy of R2.
