Star Trek memories

This love letter to Star Trek reminded me of my own warm fuzzy memory of star trek. I was the youngest of five children. By the time I was in high school, everyone else was out of the house. It was a rough adjustment period for me to be an only child for the first time in my life.

One of the things I remember very well from these years are the occasional times when my Dad would be at work late, so it was just Mom and I. She would sometimes break from tradition and actually allow us to gasp not eat in the kitchen and double gasp eat in front of the TV triple gasp on TV trays and quadruple gasp eat just Ramen for dinner, no vegetables at all!She and I would watch Star Trek: The Next Generation together. STTNG was my absolutely favorite show at the time.

It wasn't until a few years later that I realized that she must have been bored out of her mind, there's no way she could have possibly enjoyed the show. But she knew that it was enjoyable for me and so she put up with it. She didn't even have to eat with me, she could have read a book or done a million other things, but she sat with me while I watched my favorite show.

Now, here's the kicker... I've been carrying around this warm and fuzzy memory for 15 years. Last year I told her how much it meant to me, and she furrowed her brow, smiled, and said “Honey, I'm sorry but I don't remember that at all.” Ah well, the important thing is that I do.
