The download for Office Online Server is now available on MSDN. For those of you working hard on setting up your SharePoint 2016 environments, you will need this download to setup your test environment for your customers who want/need to stay with an on-premises SharePoint 2016 environment. Here’s a horrible screenshot of the download link. If you’ve not been following this closely here’s a summary of key things to be aware of:
- Excel Services was a service application in SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013. It’s no longer a Service Application in SharePoint 2016.
- Office Web Apps — the “other” OWA — was an optional install for SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.
- Office Online Server replaces Office Web Apps *and* replaces the Excel Services service application.
