Enterprise 2.0, Web 2.0, Wikis, Blogs and Social Computing and SharePoint

Just how many buzzwords can I fit in a single post? :-)

Anyway you've probably heard the buzzwords Enterprise 2.0, Web 2.0 and Social Computing.

And whether we can agree on a definition for these terms or not I think we can probably agree that they include technologies like Blogs, Wikis and Discussion Forums (Gartner have a nice little document out called "A blend if Wikis, Blogs and Discussion Forums Can Support Collaborative Business Activities")

Well guess what - Windows SharePoint Services includes Blogs, Wikis and Discussion Forums. So chances are your customers have already got these technologies in place but they just don't realise.

I've spoken to a few customers over the last few weeks who have bought up the subjects of Blogs and Wikis (they're a nice, quick way of gathering information) and many are evaluating third party pieces of software which can add another layer of burden onto their already overburdened IT Departments.

Imagine their surprise (a pleasant one) when I tell that they may already have the rights to use Windows SharePoint Services, it integrates with their existing platform AND it includes Blogs, Wikis and discussion forums.

If you want to know more there's a few of whitepapers that might be of interest.
