Some Custom ACS Reports

Here are some ACS reports that I’ve written for various customers recently.  If you have ACS installed in the same Reporting Services instance as OpsMgr Reporting, then you can just import the attached Management Pack (CustomACSReports.xml).  Otherwise, you’ll need to import each .rdl file separately. Here is a description of each report, along with some…

Powershell Commands to configure Gateway Server / Agent Failover

UPDATE:  Some of these commands have been changed for OpsMgr 2012, so I’ve created updated scripts at the bottom of this post that should work in 2012. I’ve assisted a few customers with configuring Gateway Servers/Agents for failover lately, so I figured I’d post the commands that I use for this.   Why do…

No Alert from SQL MP when clustered services go down

I recently ran into the following issue: The SQL Server Management Pack has several monitors to monitor various SQL Services: However, on a SQL Cluster, if one of these services is taken offline: We don’t get an alert from SQL (we do get a cluster alert saying that a cluster is offline), and the monitor…

Custom performance report with threshold line

I recently had a need to create an OpsMgr report to show performance data with a “threshold” line, so that it would be easy to see data points that went over a defined threshold.  We can’t do this with the built-in generic performance report, so I put together this one: The following parameters are available…

Exchange 2010 Correlation Engine Not Generating Alerts

While helping a customer migrate from SCOM 2007 to SCOM 2012 R2, we noticed a large reduction in Alerts for Exchange 2010.  After investigating further, we noticed that we were not getting any Alerts that come from the Exchange 2010 Correlation Engine. After verifying with my customer that the Exchange 2010 Monitors were generating state…

Health Service problem on Windows 2000 Agent

I recently ran into an interesting issue with a customer.  A Windows 2000 Agent (running OpsMgr SP1) was not able to process configuration due to problems creating/using the self-signed certificate that the Health Service uses (this is not a Gateway or DMZ scenario, this is the certificate that all agents create and use).  At first,…

ACS: EventSchema.xml changes for Server 2008 Account Lockout Events

Just realized that I haven’t blogged on this yet.  By default, the “Calling Machine” property of Account Lockout events from Windows Server 2008 servers is not entered in the ACS database….this will affect some of the Account Lockout reports that I have previously posted.  Below are the details and the fix:   For Windows 2000/2003…

Office update breaks "Company Knowledge" Editing

A recent Security Update for Word 2007 is breaking the ability to edit Company Knowledge in OpsMgr.  After installing KB2251419, when you try to edit Company Knowledge, you get: “The server threw an exception.  (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT))”   To resolve the problem, you’ll need to uninstall this update from Add/Remove Programs.  However, keep…

Maintenance Mode Scheduling Tool

The Operations Manager Product Team recently released an Administration Resource Kit for System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2.  One of the tools in the kit is a Maintenance Mode Scheduler….I finally got around to trying this out today…below are my notes.   Setup Download the Resource Kit and run the installation (System Center Operations…

SQL Server Full Text Search Service Monitor

This issue is described in the SQL Server Management Pack Guide, but I wanted to blog it since I’ve seen a couple customers hit it. In the current version of the SQL Server Management Pack (version 6.0.6559.0), we have a monitor for the SQL Server Full Text Search Service which is targeted at the SQL…
