Where is my localized device update?

With the recent release of the first updates for Lync Server 2010 and all clients for Lync, it is probably the first time you update your new Lync devices (for details on the update process please refer to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg182592.aspx ).

While for the Polycom CX700 and LG-Nortel IP8540 (aka “Tanjay”) – as in OCS 2007 and in OCS 2007 R2 – dedicated update files per language are provided, for all other phones (codename “Aries”: Polycom CX500, Polycom CX600, Aastra 6725ip, Aastra 6721ip) you will find only a single file.

After importing the German and the English update files to my server for the “Tanjay” and the update for Aries, I can see the following pending firmware versions in my Lync Server Control Panel:

As you can see, for the CX700 the English image (ENU) and the German image (DEU) are now on the server, as indicated by the column “Locale”. However, for the other devices you will find only the Locale “ENU”, no matter which language you chose during the installation.

If you are wondering now where the other languages went: all of them are included in a single file. It is listed with the locale “ENU” but in fact it is a MUI (Multi-lingual User Interface). Just approve the update and users will be able to choose their preferred language on the phone. After upgrading from RTM, the language on the device will be English. To change the language, users can do so on the phone (Settings > Language screen), or they can hard-reset the phone and start from scratch.
