Talking about UNIX and Linux

Recently I got a chance to speak at Melbourne Novell User Group October meeting.  The topic was Unix Windows Server 2008 logo vInteroperability in Windows Server 2008 which has been greatly improved; making it easier for administrators to  manage both platforms.  It’s common for enterprises to have both Unix/Linux and Windows in their environments so making these work together is becoming more and more important.  With Windows Server 2008 UNIX interoperability is built in and is simply enable through adding the role as part of Active Directory services.  To help with porting applications over to the Windows platform from UNIX you can download the SDK for SUA which gives you a bunch of utilities to help with compiling UNIX applications.  You get:

  • Base Utilities
  • SVR-5 Utilities
  • Base SDK
  • GNU SDK
  • GNU Utilities
  • UNIX Perl
  • Visual Studio Debugger

So if you were at this meeting or are just interested in this topic I’m making the slide deck I used available below.  Just click on the icon below to download.  I plan on doing a Screencast in the near future to show the demo’s I did so please keep an eye out for that
