BIG: December Meeting: Windows Home Server

whs

Yes Dugie and the boys are going to have a fun meeting for the December BIG User Group Meeting. And it's going to be all about Windows Home Server. There should be some cool examples of Home Server machines and I might even have a surprise one to look at! You'll just have to come along and find out. So if you live in the Brisbane area then get along to the December meeting. Check out the details below from Dugie.

December is just around the corner. So keeping with the annual Brissie tradition, I wanted to choose a topic that was fun and would be a useful project to do over the Christmas break. So this year I thought we would all chill and check out Windows Home Server.

Face it, we're all geeks. But we're the cool personable type of geeks. But sometimes the last thing we want to do of an evening, is come home, switch on a computer and maintain the 'home network'. And if you're like me, who has time and energy these days?

So enter Windows Home Server. I could tell you it's a simple and elegant way to organise all your digital photos, videos, music, and get automated backups of all your PCs. Perhaps, I could even say that you can even get remote access to all your stuff when you're away from home. Or you remove your children's access to their TV and Music when you ground them.

But instead, I’ll just say it’s cool. It has WAF ...and it also works brilliantly with your Media Centre or Xbox 360 in the house.

Building your own home server requires little more than an old P4 and a couple of drives (no monitor or keyboard!). An when it’s built, you can leave it plugged in, hidden in the garage. So if you still need convincing, check out this video clip: https://on10.net/Blogs/larry/show-us-your-tech-sandquist-edition/   If you still need that something extra, check out the photos home server I'm building: https://tinyurl.com/33c5th  - if my server is finished in time, I'll see if I can bring it in on the night.

Home Server Rocks!

Ok, still not convinced? Well all attendees will get a 180 day eval of Home Server, 25% off discount for the annual IceTV subscriptions, lots of other cool stuff and the usual free Pizza and softdrink on the night. =)

As always an early RSVP will help with catering. Please register on the BIG web site:
