Quick Post: Office 2010 RTM, Docs.com Facebook Integration, Windows InTune Preview

As usual, I’m behind on my blog posting quota. Seems like I’ve hit a rhythm of one post per week. That’s not quite as frequent as I’d like – and certainly not frequent enough to keep your eyeballs entertained. So… for my one or two readers out there I’ll try to kick it up a notch or two (but not eleven).

Here are a couple quick updates:

Office 2010 RTM: Yes, this is old news. However, starting tomorrow (4/22) you should be able to kick the tires via MSDN and TechNet downloads. I installed the RTM build on Sunday and am enjoying the final spit & polish of RTM vs. RC. If your only experience has been the public Beta release, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. And don’t pass judgement on Outlook’s conversation view unless you are connected to Exchange 2010 on the back-end. Only part of the cool conversation threading works with earlier Exchange Server versions. You need Exchange 2010 to really make this thing pop.

Docs.com Facebook Integration: I’m not a big Facebook user, but I know a few million people who ARE because I get their invites and picture tag notifications. Anyone else think it’s a conspiracy that you can’t put a global block on people tagging you in their pictures? Anyway, I digress. The team over at Microsoft FUSE Labs just announced integration between Facebook and our Word 2010 Web App. Head on over to https://docs.com/main/home to sign up for access to the beta. And while we’re talking about FUSE Labs – check out their other projects at fuse.microsoft.com.

Windows InTune Preview: On Monday at MMS we launched the Windows InTune Beta for up to 1000 businesses (first come, first served). This is pretty exciting for a couple reasons. 1. It shows our leadership and vision in the important cloud computing space… and 2. I was involved with this product team as an MVP before joining Microsoft. It’s exciting to see them ship v1 to a large audience. Check out the beta at www.windowsintune.com and stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks. Even though the current beta is targeted at companies with <500 PCs there are still some interesting scenarios for my enterprise clients. I’ll explain more soon.
