Friday Humour... put the computer back in the box.

There are some bits of humour which are so well known they become the basis for other jokes. One that sticks in my mind was Not the Nine O'Clock News's parody of a chat show at the time religious leaders were outraged by Monty Python's "Life of Brian", they had "Pythonists" railing about "The "General Synod's Life of Christ".

Bishop: In the words of John Cleese, whenever two or three are gathered together in one place, then they shall perform the Parrot Sketch.

Interviewer: It is an ex-parrot.

Others (in unison) : It has ceased to be.

Steve and I can simply say to each other, "Do you still have the box ...". as a way of indicating comic stupidity. You probably know the story which begins "Hello, word perfect support" and goes through the discovery that the customer expected WP to keep working through a power cut and ends

Tech: A power outage? Aha! Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?"

Customer: Well, yes. I keep them in the closet.

Tech: Good! Go get them and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from.

Customer: Really! Is it that bad?

Tech: Yes, I'm afraid it is.

Customer: Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?

Tech Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer."

(the Snopes urban legends site has chapter and verse on this story )

I was remined of the story reading this posting  https://www.engadget.com/2007/04/03/Microsoft-hit-with-lawsuit-for-false-vista-ads/ and the follow-up comments. I'd love to have been in the lawyers office when this lady walked in just to know if they were keen to take the case, or if they advised her to "Take the computer back to the store you bought it from..."

Edit.  There were a lot of typos in the original post.
