IIS7: a whole load of hosting goodness

The IIS website over at www.iis.net has had a revamp in the wake of the Vista launch which of course comes with IIS7; the latest and greatest version of Internet Information Server.  One of the things that I like about IIS7, apart from the new management console, is the fact that as an application developer I am not restricted to the number of web sites I can create on IIS - it's unlimited.

If you want to try it out for yourselves, there are some virtual labs available to poke around in.

You can even run PHP on IIS7 thanks to FastCGI and Microsoft's work with Zend to provide a PHP platform on Windows (more details here).  This allows you to benefit from all the power of .NET and have a consolidated server environment.  It's also useful for web developers who see the benefits of .NET but are worried about porting their PHP code - here their legacy apps can run alongside new manifestations created in the .NET Framework.
