The Weekly Wrap: updated 70-411 exam book, hearing from MVPs and Azure RemoteApp demo

Microsoft MVPs from around the world have been blogging in a guest post series. So far there have been 42 MVP posts; from all there is to know about Windows Server 2012 R2, Azure Web Sites and even an introduction to C++ in Visual Studio 2013. The latest in the series is Updated Column Store Indexes in SQL Server 2014. It is quite an interesting read, especially if you come from a SQL database admin background. It does go into some deep technical lingo in some parts, but definitely worth a read if you want a deeper understanding of this change in SQL Sever 2014. Microsoft Research have also published a whitepaper on the enhancements to SQL Server Column Stores.

If you work with Windows Server 2012 R2 and are looking at taking the 70-411 exam, then I have the perfect study buddy for you! Microsoft Press have released a new book that guides you through the study needed to tackle the exam and it has been fully updated for R2. The book focuses on expertise in;

  • Deploying, managing, and maintaining servers
  • Configuring file and print services
  • Configuring network services and access
  • Configuring a Network Policy Server infrastructure
  • Configuring and managing Active Directory
  • Configuring and managing Group Policy

The best part is, the 70-411 exam counts as a credit toward the MCSA and MCSE certification.

A few weeks back, just after TechEd North America, Brad Anderson blogged about the new Microsoft Azure RemoteApp preview and an awesome interactive demo. In less than 5 clicks, you can experience the end-user aspects of the RemoteApp service on a variety of platforms (iOS, MacOS and Windows devices). Jump in, give it a try and let me and the team know how you go.

Happy Friday!
