Management Group Name in System Center Operations Manager 2007 e System Center Service Manager 2010

Pochi giorni fa sono stato da un cliente per eseguire un upgrade dell’infrastruttura di System Center Operations Manager alla ultima CU3 , il cliente aveva un problema nell’installazione dell’agente SCOM 2007 sui MS di SCSM 2010 e mi ha chiesto aiuto per risolvere la situazione.

Da una prima analisi del problema eseguita tentando di installare l’agente di SCOM 2007 sul MS di SCSM via discovery wizard ci compariva questo errore:

The Agent Management Operation Agent Install failed for remote computer servername.domain.com.
Install account: DOMAIN\account
Error Code: 80070643
Error Description: Fatal error during installation.
Microsoft Installer Error Description:
For more information, see Windows Installer log file "C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\AgentManagement\AgentLogs\servernameAgentInstall.LOG

Dalla troubleshooting table pubblicata nel blog di Kevin Holman (http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2009/01/27/console-based-agent-deployment-troubleshooting-table.aspx) gli errori  potevano essere questi

1.  Ensure automatic updates service is started
2.  Rebuild WMI repository
3.  DNS resolution issue

Fatta una analisi di queste probabili solution abbiamo visto che  tutti i parametri da controllare erano configurati correttamente abbiamo quindi deciso di provare ad instalare l’agente manualmente con questo risultato

Invalid Management Group name"

This problem occurs when the Management Group name is:

-Empty of Null

-Leading or Trailing spaces

-Already exists on this computer

-Contains special characters. The Management Group name should not contain following special characters:
}">}">^@)~(:!`#%\*+$|,&&='["]/<.{;?>}

To continue setup, go back and change the Management Group name.

Questo errore mi ha fatto pensare e cosi sono iniziati i controlli del MG name di SCSM 2010 fatti con questi step (http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2010/01/25/how-to-look-up-the-management-group-name.aspx)

Once you enter the management group name during set up you never see it again. We really should be showing it on the title bar of the console, but until we get around to doing that here are a couple of ways you can look it up.

1) Use the ServiceManager or DWStagingAndConfig database and run the following query. Keep in mind that the DW is a management group all by itself.

SELECT ManagementGroupName FROM __MOMManagementGroupInfo__

2) Look in the registry on a Service Manager or Data Warehouse management server. Look for a key under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager\3.0\Server Management Groups

Yes, it’s under the Operations Manager key. Remember that this is a common platform underlying multiple System Center products .

Ed ecco scoperto l’arcano il MG  name di SCOM 2007 era identico al MG name di SCSM 2010 configurazione non supportata perché come descritto nella delivery guide sia di SCOM 2007 che di SCSM 2010 il MG name deve essere unico!!!!

Caution

Management group names must be unique. Do not use the same management group name even when deploying a Service Manager management server and a Service Manager data warehouse management server. Furthermore, do not use the management group name that is used for Operations Manager.

Purtroppo l’unica soluzione accettabile è quella di reinstallare completamente uno dei due prodotti , per mio consiglio io reinstalleri SCSM 2010 solo perchè fondamentalmente se avete lavorato correttamente e fatto tutte le customizzazioni in management pack custom potrete tranquillamente esportarli e rerimportarli nel nuovo ambiente, al contrario SCOM 2007 dovrete per esempio disinstallare tutti gli agent e poi reinstallarli (prima problematica che vi farà perdere non poco tempo) e eseguire altre operazioni come backup di Mp custom e numerosi altri step.

Quindi il dictat è CONTROLLATE SEMPRE I MG name del prodotto che avete già in produzione prima di inserirne uno nuovo sia esso SCOM 2007 o SCSM 2010
