Forefront TMG 2010 Capacity Planning Tool Now Available

The Forefront TMG 2010 Capacity Planning Tool, a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with built-in workflow, is now available for download.

Forefront TMG now has two resources that can help you determine the server hardware required for your deployment:

· The TechNet article Forefront TMG 2010 hardware recommendations—Shows hardware recommendations for common deployment scenarios, and design considerations specific to Forefront TMG that are relevant for any size deployment.

· The Forefront TMG 2010 Capacity Planning Tool— Shows hardware recommendations for enterprise and high bandwidth deployments.

The Forefront TMG Capacity Planning Tool

The Forefront TMG Capacity Planning Tool is designed to help enterprise customers provision their server hardware according to the number of users, wide area network bandwidth, features and protections they intend to enable in their Forefront TMG 2010 deployment.

Use the Capacity Planning Tool to enter your deployment’s requirements and generate a series of hardware recommendations. Alternatively, you can use the tool to enter an existing server’s configuration and calculate the maximum number of users and bandwidth it can support for a certain set of features and protections.

Sample capacity information

Test results on hardware available at RTM show that a single Forefront TMG server, deployed as a secure Web gateway, can reasonably support over 12,000 concurrent users and a peak WAN bandwidth of 480 Mbps. To support this level of features, users, and bandwidth, you need a server with 2 Intel Xeon Core i7 3333 MHz processors, each with 8 cores, and 12 GB RAM.
