How to make things better by making them worse

Does that sound right?  Of course it doesn't...but in some cases that's just what troubleshooting is all about.

I.e. to force the problem to show itself in a consistent manner so you can grab it by the tail and give it a solid thrashing.

This is the reason for things like disabling Fast Logon Optimization, turning off specific features of the operating system or uninstalling various add-on components.

The bottom line is that it's hard to fix what you can't see or find...sometimes you just have to start with intentionally making things worse to be able to make them better later.
