Continuing from the previous post, Nikunj completes the feature description in this post for the remaining 3 products, SCVMM, SCOM, App Controller.

5. Virtual Machine Manager 2012

· SCVMM 2012 SP1 provides support for the network virtualization capabilities that are available in Windows Server 2012. There is new model for virtual machine networking, including network virtualization and VLANs for network isolation. We can manage the Hyper-V extensible switch, including deployment and configuration of virtual switch extensions using a new logical switch concept.

· This release also adds support for user interface (UI) add-ins that can extend the functionality of the VMM console.

· Support for file shares that use the Server Message Block (SMB) 3.0 protocol.

· Support for the new Windows Standards-Based Storage Management service, which uses the same WMI-based programming interface that is included in Windows Server 2012. This new API enables you to discover storage by using multiple provider types. In addition, support for the thin provisioning of logical units was added.

· Support for VHDX with the functionality to convert a virtual hard disk format from .vhd to .vhdx. There are placement enhancements to determine the format of a virtual hard disk based on the operating system of the destination host (when you create a virtual machine with a blank virtual hard disk), and the provisioning of a physical computer as a Hyper-V host supports the use of a .vhdx file as the base operating system image. Additionally, you can use VMM to rapid provision virtual machines that use VHDX-based virtual hard disks from SAN-copy capable templates.

· This release includes several live migration enhancements that enable the migration of a running virtual machine with no downtime.

· There below two new options for live migration:

                         o Live virtual machine and storage migration (live VSM) is new in System Center 2012 SP1. During live VSM, both the virtual machine state and the virtual machine storage are transferred.

                         o Live storage migration is new in VMM in System Center 2012 SP1. During live storage migration, only the virtual machine storage is transferred.

6. Operations Manager 2012

· There are new Monitoring Capabilities under APM functionality:

                         o Monitoring of Windows Services Built on the .NET Framework.

                         o Automatic Discovery of ASP.NET MVC3 and MVC4 Applications.

                         o New Transaction Types: MVC Pages and WCF Methods.

· Enabled APM of SharePoint 2010.

· Integration with Team Foundation Server 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2012.

· New monitoring capability allows for opening of APM exception events from Visual Studio IDE as if the exception was captured during the IntelliTrace historical debugging session. Developers can stay within their familiar environment to examine complete exception call stack.

· New Management Packs and Support for Windows Server 2012 and IIS 8.

· The System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta version of Operations Manager can show you different perspectives of application health in one place—360 .NET Application Monitoring Dashboards. The 360 .NET Application Monitoring Dashboards displays information from Global Service Monitor, .NET Application Performance Monitoring, and Web Application Availability Monitoring to provide a summary of health and key metrics for 3-tier applications in a single view.

· ACS support is now added for Dynamic Access Control - new feature in Windows Server 2012, where business data owners to easily classify and label data allowing access policies to be defined for data classes that are critical to business.

· Support is added for CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu Linux.

7. App Controller

· Upload a virtual hard disk or image to Windows Azure from a VMM library or network share.

· Add a virtual machine to a deployed service in Windows Azure.

· Start, stop, and connect to virtual machines in Windows Azure.

· Migrate a virtual machine from VMM to Windows Azure.

· Deploy a virtual machine in Windows Azure to create a cloud service.

· Add a Service Provider Framework (SPF) hosting provider connection.

Along with above features, System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) introduces capabilities provided by Service Provider Foundation that enable service providers and large IT organizations to programmatically integrate cloud resources managed by Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) into existing management portals and orchestration.

Service Provider Foundation enables new scenarios and concepts that allow organizations to offer infrastructure as a service (IaaS) on Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) while maintaining their investment in workflow orchestration and self-service portals.
