In a highly competitive world, organizations want to drive innovation faster to market. To support this need for speed, you need to enable continuous services across IT lifecycle. Continuous application deployments are just the starting point. To really increase velocity, you need a proactive automation platform that can support activities such as deployment, configuration, monitoring and protection. Over the last couple of weeks, you were introduced to key capabilities of IT automation and configuration in Operations Management Suite (OMS). Today, we will look at how to can get started with continuous IT services that enables an improved SLA.

Consistent deployment and configurations
The configuration management capabilities in OMS, discussed in the earlier post, will help with consistently applying, monitoring and updating the required configuration of infrastructure and application resources across any IT environment. You also get access to a community gallery of ready-made OMS solutions, runbooks, log analytics solutions, configurations, and modules to get insight and automate your services. For example, refer to the continuous deployment to VMs using Automation DSC and Chocolatey.
Reliable monitoring and automated remediation
In the beginning of the blog series on automation, we talked about how you can monitor any cloud, any platform. Information on IT issues is not enough, you have to be able to apply that knowledge to address real issues. With OMS, you can take immediate action to rectify errors with runbooks or webhooks in response to log search query or any alerts. You can also trigger runbooks in the cloud or locally in the datacenter. In many cases, this will help you reduce the time spent to remediate known issues with automated solutions for alerts in your environment. Check out how to use OMS alerting and notifications to remediate problems.
Orchestrated backup and recovery
Last month, you learned about disaster recovery capabilities in OMS. Recovery plans can orchestrate recovery of virtual machines protected using Site Recovery for both replications to secondary cloud and to Azure scenarios. They also help in making the recovery consistently accurate, repeatable, and automated. If required, you can customize the plan to create groups and sequence the order in which machines in the recovery plan are failed over. You can also add prompts for manual actions and scripts.
