Fix up a Word document quickly

Yesterday we looked at hidden formatting and shared a quick tip to search and replace double spaces using the Find and Replace tool. But what if what you want to replace is not a character but the formatting itself?

No problem. In your Find and Replace box, click More to reveal this view:

Click Special to reveal this list of searchable symbols and marks:

You can easily remove excess spacing in your document by searching for double paragraph marks to replace them with single marks (as shown in the Find and Replace box above). Or prevent any hyphen breaks by replacing all regular hyphens with non-breaking hyphens. You can even remove all graphics in a file!
