Hot Issue – You are unable to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 after applying Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2

Hi everyone,

Based on support incident analysis and the Knowledge Base article analysis, we see that the following article has a big impact for Windows Server 2003 and Internet Explorer users. Therefore, we would like to share the information with you on this blog. 


The problem is that, after installing Service Pack 2 on the Windows Server 2003-based computer, the user finds that he/she cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7. Actually this is an expected behavior. If you really need to uninstall Internet Explorer 7, you can uninstall Service Pack 2 first.

    it may be expected behaviour but the resolution does not always work as it leaves IE7 bits behind – we need a better way of cleanly removing IE7 if required.

    i can not uninstall ie 7 from my my control panel change or remove icon not visible on ie help me immediately.

    To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview and to return to the previous version of Internet Explorer in Windows XP, follow these steps:

    Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

    Click to select the Show updates check box.

    Scroll through the list of installed programs to the Windows XP – Software Updates section.

    In the Windows XP – Software Updates section, click Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview, and then click Remove.

    In the Software Update Removal Wizard dialog box, click Next.

    Click Finish when the process has finished, and then restart the computer.
