Mamut Selects Windows Azure as its Cloud Computing Platform

At PDC this week, we're pleased to share a bit about Mamut Online Backup built on Windows Azure which we are currently piloting. The idea behind Mamut Online Backup is to create a secure, cost-effective and user-friendly backup solution that ensures your important files are automatically encrypted and protected at all times.

As our number of customers increases, so do the demands on our server solution, and our urge to find the best and most affordable server solution. With this consolidation, we decided to choose Windows Azure as our cloud computing platform because it enables a quicker extension of the software plus services offering with lower investments.  As a first step in migrating services and functionalities to the cloud, we are extending our Mamut One solution with Mamut Online Backup, developed as part of the Technical Adoption Program for Windows Azure. Windows Azure provided us with a robust and cost-competitive framework for building a server solution that will meet our customers increasing demands for online backup and synchronization.

Some of the key benefits that were enticing to us about Windows Azure were:

  • Using Windows Azure we can reduce costs compared to maintaining our own servers.
  • Windows Azure provides instant scalability on demand.

• Windows Azure provides reduced risk of hardware and software failures.

We look forward to releasing this to customers early next year. Please feel free to e-mail me with questions about what we are doing with Windows Azure.
