PowerTip: Use PowerShell to Find Where Drive Letter is Stored

Summary: Use the Get-Partition and Get-Disk cmdlets to identify data storage locations.

Hey, Scripting Guy! Question How can I use Windows PowerShell to easily figure out which disk a particular drive letter is on?

Hey, Scripting Guy! Answer Use Get-Partition with the drive letter and pipe the results to Get-Disk, for example:

Get-Partition –DriveLetter Z | Get-Disk

Could you please provide information about the necessary Powershell version in the future. Especially if it’s the newest one. I think a lot of users still use the last one.
    Thanks

Good point all as this is from the newer modules that Windows 7 does not have. 🙂

This Cmdlet is built in to Windows 8 and higher

    Thanks
