I was very happy to enable content filtering on Forefront today - Marquette University

    • “Two days ago, we installed another E2K10 with FSE Edge server and removed our last E2K7 Edge.  The SPAM for me and almost all of my colleagues has gone to zero.  No SPAM, None, Nadda, nothing!  This is now a truly enterprise AS/AV product… Well done [Exchange] Edge and FSE teams!!!! – Horizon Consulting

  1. Vitaly,

Pricing and Licensing (…/pricing-licensing.aspx) estimates the price currently at $15 per user, per year for a typical customer.

For more information about FPE 2010 licensing as it relates to an Exchange External Connector license, please contact Microsoft or a Microsoft reseller. Purchasing Options (…/purchase.aspx) shows the contact information for Microsoft sales.

    Hope that helps.

Can we get you guys to talk to the SBS team and come up with a way to removed all of the warnings that SBS server creates after FPE2010 is installed on SBS 2008?   I have it working at serveral of my customers sites but the removal of the default SBS antispam causes the SBS reports and console to go nuts with errors.  It would be nice if you could help them update their console to report of the health status of FPE2010.   I hate having to explain to my customers that two microsoft products can't understand each other even thought they are both new.

  3. So what kind and number of subscription licenses required for scenario when FFP for Exchange 2010 installed ONLY on EDGE server? Is it one External connector license, one "per device" license or multiply “per user” licenses equal to number of protecting mailboxes?

I'm trying to buy this through our supplier, but they need a part number for the purchase… I've been looking for the past 4 hours or so but still can't find anything.  Where would I be able to find a part number??

When will Forefront 2010 be available on TechNet?

  8. Ken Fleming says:

We have installed a new server with Forefront and converted our old server into a terminal server.  We forgot to look into how we can transfer the safe senders list from Antigen which we had on our old server to Forefront on the new one. We already uninstalled Antigen but kept the file that probably contains the list.  If there a way for Forefront to read that file and import the list.  If not, if I can find a computer with Anitigen installed, can I get it to read the file and then export it out in a form that Forefront can read it?

  9. MJ says:

I have, and have so far failed.

No one at the Microsoft Partner licensing team, the Technical Pre-sales team, or at distributors appears to know how this is licensed and purchased!  I am trying to incorporate the product into a proposal for a migration for a customer, and I can’t get a consistent answer on how to purchase the product!!!!!!

There appears to be a lot of confusion as to whether the product is an actual product or an online service.

I just want a price for X user licenses.  You would think that would be straightforward…

If anyone out there can help / point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

  10. Brita Jenquin says:

You can purchase the product through Microsoft Volume Licensing.  It is offered as a per user or per device subscription.  It is an on-premise software product, but offered through the "Online Services" program because of the subscription service required
to update antimalware and antispam protections.

Microsoft partners can access a pricing and licensing guide for this product here:

If you have any further questions, please have your Microsoft Partner Manager escalate your questions to the Forefront Protection Product Management Team.

  11. Ben says:

Is there a way to centrally manage FPE 2010?

  12. PowerZone says:

I also cannot find a correct product number or part number. I wonder if MS has sold any of these? I can't even find a supplier that will sell it to me. None of them can find the product number either.

  13. PowerZone says:

I did find this in the FPE_Partner_FAQ.docx document. Perhaps it will help find the correct product licensing:

How is Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server licensed?

Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server is licensed through Microsoft Volume Licensing in the Microsoft Online Services program on a per-user or per-device subscription model.  This license includes all anti-malware and antispam scanning engine updates, signatures, and product upgrades during the license period.
