It may be possible to fix the problem using these steps :

    1. Open Outlook Express
    2. Click "Local Folders" in the left side navigation
    3. Select New Folder and name it TEMP
    4. If possible move all of the email from your Inbox to the TEMP folder
    5. Go to menu bar and select Tools -> Options -> Maintenance -> Store Folder and then write down the location of your inbox
    6. Close Outlook Express,
    7. Use My Computer to go to the location is step 5 and then delete the file inbox.dbx
    8. Open Outlook Express – The Inbox folder should be auto recreated.
    9. Move your email from the TEMP folder back to your Inbox

I don’t know if anyone is still looking for help with this error. It basically means you have too much saved email in the version of Outlook Express your are using. You may want to try some of the methods listed in Outlook Express Fix Toolbox

Link to free demo version:- http://www.outlookexpress.fixtoolbox.com/

Hope this helps for people who are still getting this error. If you are getting it, I am sure you are dreading the fact you may lose ‘A lot’ of your saved emails.

    Good luck,

  10. Kara says:

This fix it tool did not work.  I also tried this:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Run dialog box, and then click OK:

    regsvr32 urlmon.dll

    2. Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands:

    regsvr32 mshtml.dll

    regsvr32 shdocvw.dll

    regsvr32 browseui.dll

    regsvr32 msjava.dll

When I type in “regsvr32 urlmon.dll” it get a successful notification.  When I type in the next “regsvr32 mshtml.dll”, I get a message that states, “The module “mshtml.dll” was loaded but the entry point DllServer was not found.  Make sure the “mshtml.dll” is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again.”

The same happens when I tried “shdocvw.dll” and “browseui.dll”.  When I typed in the “msjava.dll” it succeeded.

    I am running IE8, MSOutlook 2007 SP2

http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm (Scroll to ‘Hyperlinks in messages stop working’. This repaired Outlook.)

I don’t know if following directions of the pdf would have also repaired Outlook since I found & worked the first link before the pdf.  MTFBWY

There is an answer here that worked for me:

    I have XP.

    On this page,

    social.answers.microsoft.com/…/2811dc6b-ee41-4e57-a612-700c9e471cd3

scroll down to where it says "For Windows XP:"

I use Firefox, so I did not want to change the default browser, even temporarily.

I started where it says "If hyperlinks are still not working".

When I  got to step 6, I clicked on the "Browse" button, instead of following this instruction to the letter.

I went to the program files, Mozilla folder, and clicked directly on the firefox.exe program name.  Use "OK" to back out of this and the next screens.

I then performed step 7 in the same way.  I did a few other URL choices on the list, just to make sure.  Somehow, Google's Chrome browser had gotten inserted into this location, and messed things up.  It could have been when I updated my Sun Java, even though I had selected "NO" when presented with the choice of adding this browser.

I want to thank Microsoft for their help, and the other folks who wrote in and provided information.

  59. With regard to links not working in Outlook Express the fix given by Cory back in 2009 works – see http://www.insideoe.com/…/bugs.htm.  BUT  after applying this fix, when you click on an email link you will get a pop up advising you that Internet Explorer is not your default browser and asking you if you want to make it the default.  Untick the check box and click NO.  If you don't do this then everything will revert back to the way it was before you fixed it and the problem will still be there.  Unticking the check box will stop you being asked this question again.

    Well, it worked for me.
