First of all, I think that I should introduce myself. I've been at Microsoft for about 5 years, 3 of which I worked based out of the Dallas, TX campus and the rest up here in good 'ol Redmond. I just switched over from a role as a Premier Field Engineer to one as an ITPro Technical Evangelist. I'll be helping to evangelize Microsoft's latest and greatest here at the corporate office which can be measured by "wins" or customers adopting the latest and greatest platform stuff (i.e. like Longhorn server).
Now on to the title of this blog post. For the past two years I've been a mobile employee traveling frequently and working out of my home (when I was home), so I actually lost touch with what it meant to really go into a desk / office job. I am excited by the fact that I can easliy separate my work from personal time and that I get to interact with the same people on an ongoing basis (such as co-workers) in person rather than primarily via email, phone, IM, etc.
However, I must admit that the office itself that I am in is extremely boring. The lull of the overhead floresence lights and plain white walls definitely doesn't spark any sort of creativity, that's for sure. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I'm happy that I have an office instead of a cubicle and also that I'm not sharing this office with anyone else. I think that I'm just going a little bit crazy with the boringness of my assigned little area, considering I'm an "extreme" guy in a work area far from it.

Anyways, I'd love to get your comments on what makes you feel comfortable or "whisked away" in your very own cubicle, office, or some other compartmentalized space. I was thinking about bringing in some of my extreme sport posters and putting those up on the walls as starters, but I'd love to hear some of your recommendations. Sometime down the road after the office has been transformed, I'll post up another blog pic of the office as long as I feel the transformation is worthy of it...
