Evan is back - Blog update and future plans

In case you’re wondering what I’ve been up to during this exceptionally long period of very sporadic posting, today I’ve got some details.

Any loyal readers who have stuck with this blog through the last year and a half of near-absolute silence may remember that in Spring of 2005 I moved from Exchange escalation services (technical support) in Charlotte, NC to the Exchange product group out in Redmond, WA. Well, since that time, I’ve been working feverishly on the next release of Exchange: Exchange 2007. My team is responsible for much of the visible stuff administrators see in Exchange 2007 — the Exchange Management Console, the Exchange Management Shell, Setup GUI, etc. Since our focus is on these things that administrators interact with, we spend a lot of time working with folks like you to make sure we get it right!

Now that we’ve released Beta2 and many of you have it up and running in test labs, it’s time to start to really dig into some of the things we’ve introduced or improved in this version. And today we started – see Amanda’s first post on “Console Overview” at https://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/08/21/428728.aspx! Our team has a whole queue of blog posts waiting to be posted, so keep your eyes on the MSExchangeTeam blog (and in particular the Administration category).

So what does this mean for this blog? Well, it means two things:

  • I probably won’t be posting too much on Exchange clustering anymore, if for no other reason than because I really don’t know much about the new Exchange 2007 clustering changes and most of the Exchange 2003 clustering issues are now well understood by this point.
  • I definitely WILL be posting lots of IT-pro focused tips, tricks, etc. For the next little while, I’m going to focus most of my blog-energy on getting through our queue of blog posts over at the official team blog so it might stay fairly quiet here for a few weeks still. But once we get the bulk of the queue pushed out through the “official channel” (how funny is it to consider the MS team blog an official channel! Who would have thought that two years ago!? ), expect to see more regular posting in this space.

There are so many great new things in Exchange 2007, I already have my own “queue of cool Exchange 2007 topics for Evan to blog about” building up in my mailbox. Plus, I’ll be more than happy to entertain questions and comments related to the official blog posts that might otherwise get lost in the traffic over on the team blog as we blast through the official queue.

So, that’s the update. Hope you folks are as glad to have me back as I am to be here!
