MOSS OTAP

On frequent basis I get questions about how to set up MOSS in an OTAP environment (Dutch: Ontwikkel, Test, Acceptatie, Produktie). As a consultant I wrote some stuff about this and wanted to share this with you. Note that it is Dutch, but as we now have some beautiful translation capabilities in IE8 (Page-> Translate with Windows Live), this shouldn't stop you.

Btw, here are some helpful links that will definitely help you to create and deploy solutions more easily:

<www.codeplex.com/wspbuilder>
The WSPbuilder is a console application that creates SharePoint Solutions files based on a folder structure. WSPBuilder will automatically traverse a "12" folder structure and creates a SharePoint solution manifest.xml and the wsp file based on the files it finds. Therefore you do not need the knowledge of how to create a solution manifest.xml and wsp file any more.

<www.codeplex.com/sharepointinstaller>
This project is a Windows application for an eased and more user friendly installation and deployment of SharePoint 2007 solution files to a SharePoint server farm. Distribute your SharePoint solution files with this installation program instead of a raw script using STSADM.EXE to install and deploy the solution.

<www.codeplex.com/WSSFeaturePackager>
SharePoint features can be packaged into .WSP solution packages, defining a .DDF cabinet description file and a WSP solution package manifest (manifest.xml). These files can be hard to maintain when the feature is large and contains many files. This tool generates these files automatically, based on the Visual Studio project folder structure.

<www.codeplex.com/SPSource>
SPSource is a tool for SharePoint developers to assist in the creation of WSS Solution Packages (WSPs) allowing for the use SharePoint Designer and the SharePoint web UI to make quick changes to items, then push those items into Visual Studio for later compilation into a WSP for deployment to another site collection or farm.
