=====
We are excited to announce the release of Update Rollup 2 for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager (DPM 2012 R2). This update adds support for protection and recovery of Windows Server 2003 computers. You heard it right! As we had announced during various events over the past couple of months, we are committed to delivering key customer asks through update rollups going forward. This is the first of such updates that addresses key feedback/gaps in DPM 2012 R2 and you can expect more in the upcoming updates.
The following workloads are supported on Win2K3:
- SQL 2005
- SQL 2008
- SQL 2008 R2
- SharePoint 2007
UR2 also adds support for protection of availability groups built over clustered SQL instances.

> Any update on when this will be re-released?
Soon to be re-released, per Shreesh:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c425421b-b726-4125-82fc-beae8947722c/dpm-2012-r2-agent-update-on-windows-2003-server-x64?forum=dpmsetup#b12db9df-7212-4727-9b3f-bb109b6019a1
JUST Server 2003 and not Server 2008 non-r2? the support matrix document (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj860400.aspx) still hasn’t been updated.
Thanks!
Hi,
there is a problem with this Rollup if you have external tapes imported. DPM Access Manager crashes with Event ID 999 and prevents DPM to work.
Please check this for solution:

next try with Internet Explorer as my post above is unreadable…

Does this mean protection of a Windows SharePoint farm that is using the SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn feature for the content databases is now supported?
The Server 2003 Agent Installer from the 4.2.1226.0 folder within the agents folder installs 2012 SP1 agent, version 4.1.3441.0. The DPM 2012 R2 console still insists that the server needs updating which fails. Have you got a download for the agent or is there something I’m doing wrong?
Same problem here as trcc.
Loading this rollup caused the DPM Access Manager service to fail each time we attempted to start the DPM console. The service could be manually restarted but would stop again when attempting to load the console. connecting to DPM via PowerShell also failed. I would strongly suggest MS pull this update. Ours required a complete reinstall of DPM and restore of the DPM database. Are these updates even tested?!
I think the roll up is installed, however in the update history it shows as failed, and I cant seem to find a manual download, however it shows version 4.2.1226.0 Is that the version number when the roll up 2 is installed?
Thanks
Hi Joseph, I can confirm that our agents show this build after installing UR2. Update has been pulled from Microsoft because of the known problem with service crash.
trcc – Thanks for the update about the bad rollup and that it’s been pulled. There is no uninstall, and I figured I was screwed, but I finally figured out the link to the page with the sql script that fixes it. I’ll see if I can paste it here successfully for others.
“http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e9f4801e-6a6f-440f-ad05-65758007db69/dpm-2012-r2-ru2-kb2958100-dpm-accessmanager-service-crash?forum=dataprotectionmanager” – leave out the quotes.
Apologies if it doesn’t work and I get the same result as trcc.
Any update on when this will be re-released?
thanks
Why does no one write in the offical DPM-Blog that UR2 has been pulled back? Cheers, Oskar
Is there an update on when this will be re-released. The article should be updated showing it has been pulled..
